About the Conference

"This is a professional conference for faith leaders to learn about addiction and how to best respond. Everyone is welcome as we strive to educate faith communities with what they need to help those addicted."
                                                                                                                               --Pastor Ed Treat
With growing concern
over the devastation from all forms of addiction, including the ever-increasing opioid crisis, and now the added challenge of a worldwide pandemic, the Center of Addiction & Faith presents this important gathering to raise awareness about the terrible addiction problem we face and how the church and people of faith can help to address it.

The 2022 conference will focus on the correlation between addiction and trauma. Trauma increases the risk of developing substance abuse, and substance abuse increases the likelihood of being re-traumatized by engaging in high-risk behavior. It is also true that individuals who are abusing drugs or alcohol are less able to cope with traumatic events.
We have assembled top internationally-known speakers to inspire and educate attendees to deal with this terrible problem going forward. Breakout sessions will teach attendees how you and your faith community can become a life saving haven for those struggling with addiction, and their loved ones.

In 2020, researchers at the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (N.I.A.A.A.) found that from 1999 through 2017, per capita consumption increased by 8% and the number of alcohol-related deaths doubled, many caused by liver disease. The trends are particularly concerning for women."
                                      --The New York Times

"More than 107,000 Americans died of drug overdoses last year, setting another tragic record in the nation's escalating overdose epidemic, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimated. The provisional 2021 total translates to roughly one U.S. overdose death every 5 minutes. It marked a 15% increase from the previous record, set the year before ."
                                   --The Drug Policy Alliance

"Adults with 4 or more ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) are 3 times more likely to experience alcohol problems in adulthood and those with 3 or more ACEs are more than
3 times more likely to engage in problem gambling."
Psychology Today

"Approximately 21 million Americans have at least one addiction, yet only 10% will receive treatment."

"Experts say the Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated the problem as lockdown and other restrictions isolated those with drug addictions and made treatment harder to get."
